Breaking news coming out of Bloomington, Indiana as Tom Crean was fired from coaching the Indiana Hoosier basketball this afternoon.
Crean has coached IU basketball since 2008. He took over after the Kelvin Sampson coached the Hoosiers for two seasons and was fired after he was a key role in recruiting Eric Gordon, after Gordon verbally committed to Illinois.
The journey with Crean was not all pretty. The first three season with Indiana he finished bottom three in the Big Ten and a combined record of 28-66.
From 2011-2016 Crean shined in Bloomington bringing basketball back to dominance. He led IU to four 20 plus win season including three Sweet-16 runs.
“Indiana Basketball is held up to higher standards like the Duke, Kentucky and the Kansas of the basketball world. We need consistency and losing the first round of the NIT is not what we expect.” Said an Indiana Athletic employee who didn’t want to be identified.
Crean is turning 51 years old next week and should be getting calls from power five conference teams here shortly.
